The “Por un Futuro Mejor” (For a Better Future) communal bank is formed by ten women who live in Paute Canton. This is a canton with a mild climate that is apt for flower growing and also produces a great variety of fruit. Its residents are merchants, raise livestock and farm. There are several tourist attractions in this canton. Its people are warm and kind like our members who are very hardworking people engaged in a variety of activities that make it possible for them to improve economically and support their families.

One of the group members is Delia. She lives around Paute Canton. She’s 24 years old, married and has three children who are 8, 5 and 1 year old. Her two oldest children go to the local elementary school. Her husband works in farming and the house they live in is their property.

Delia is a farmer. She grows potatoes and “mellocos” [a tuber] that she sells in the canton’s market. She works Sunday to Sunday with no fixed work schedule since she works her own fields. She also raises cattle, chickens and pigs.

This is the sixth loan she’s taken with the communal bank and she’s going to use it to buy seeds and manure. Her dream is to buy herself a vehicle.

The small inserted photo is of one of the members who, because of work commitments, was unable to be present when the group photo was taken.
