Hiyam is a 55-year-old Lebanese widowed woman living with her only child and three siblings. She has been working as a cook since 2010. Her job is to prepare and cook food in her home then sell it to customers. Today, she is requesting to borrow $700 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to purchase a new oven. She needs to increase her productivity before the winter season as her business sales increase during that period. In the future, she would like to rent out a small space to sell her merchandise. For the time being, she will continue to sell goods from her home.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
