The Mi Dulce Hogar communal bank meets every 15 days in Las Cumbres in the city of Manta, known for its beautiful beaches, which are visited at all times of the year, and also for being a city of unequaled beauty with many tourist attractions.

This is a group of people who decided to join together 4 months ago to form this communal bank which has helped greatly to expand their businesses. They are engaged in various activities such as general trade, food sales and services, among others.

Sra. Suliana lives here. She is 33 and lives with her common-law husband with whom she has two sons, 14 and 6 years of age. They are attending high school and primary school. Her husband is a chauffeur.

Suliana is a very hard-working woman who does different things. She sells seasonal clothing of all kinds as well as natural products and she also makes clothing. She sells door to door and also in her home, where her customers come when they need an item or want her to make them a garment. Among her products, the biggest sellers are energy drinks. She has been doing this for three years and it is going very well.

She will use this loan to buy natural products, especially energy drinks. She has been in the communal bank since its inception and is the president of the group. She likes it because of the loans it provides.

Suliana’s dreams are to have a large dress-making workshop and a grocery store.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
