Christine is a married woman with five children, three of whom attend school while two have graduated from school. Christine owns a house that does not have electricity or piped water. Her greatest monthly expenses are food and school fees.
For the past seven years, Christine has operated a charcoal sales business, selling in a shop to her neighbors and passers-by. In addition she sells herbal soaps, which adds to her income. She faces the major challenge of seasonality in her business. She dreams of becoming a leading supplier of charcoal in the future.
With this loan of 50,000 KES, Christine wants to purchase sacks of charcoal for resale. She decided to join Kiva partner, Yehu, to access loans to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
