Lilian is aged 37 and married. She has one 11 year old child. She lives with her family in Nkubu, Central Kenya where she has been doing mixed farming for five years. Her farming produce of wheat, maize, beans, millet and potatoes all go to the local market.
Lilian has made a loan request of 90,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help her purchase two water tanks at 30,000 KES each. She will use the remaining 30,000 KES to purchase irrigation pipes. She says the tanks will give her water security and help to irrigate her farm. She intends to do large scale dairy farming.
Lilian says farmers in the area are limited by financial contraints.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
