Cornelia is separated from her husband and has two school-aged children. She is 36 years old and lives in the village of San Pedro in Pagadian City, Philippines.
Cornelia has a swine fattening business to earn a living. She has been raising this type of animal for over 8 years. While not her sole source of income, Cornelia earns approximately 37,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) a month. She has requested a loan of 30,000 PHP from GDMPC to purchase livestock feed and other supplies to facilitate her animals' growth.
Cornelia is a new member of GDMPC. This is her first loan taken out from the cooperative. In the future, Cornelia hopes to buy more piglets to raise and sell. She plans to save for future emergencies and for the education of her children to give them a better future. Cornelia expects to borrow again after paying this loan in full to sustain business operations.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
