James has been a farmer in his hometown of Kitale for over 10 years, producing and selling milk, eggs, maize and vegetables and selling to the local market. He has also been in a motorcycle transport business. He is married with four children, two adults and two minors who are still in school.
James has made a loan request of 100,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase more poultry birds at 30,000 KES as well as build a bigger and better poultry unit (building) at 60,000 KES. He says this third loan from Juhudi will make his farming business better and improve his family's living standards.
He adds that diseases and poultry feed scarcity are real challenges, though they are surmountable.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
