Cheruiyot is the father of two children aged 8 and 4 years. He resides in Litein, South Rift, Kenya where he has been practicing mixed farming for four years. He is himself 29 years old.
Cheruiyot has made a loan request of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a motorcycle for his transport business. He says this second loan will help him spread the risk experienced in farming business and harsh weather conditions. He adds that lack of market for farm produce, too, is a great challenge and the main reason he decided to venture into a transportation business. He says the loan will uplift his living standards.
Cheruiyot reiterates that harsh weather conditions and poor markets for farm produce are the greatest limitations in the farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
