Gibson is a resident of Kitale in Western Kenya where he has been in farming for the last 6 years, producing and selling maize and milk. He is 31 years old, married, and has 3 children who are all attending school. He also gets additional income from employment.
Gibson has made a loan request of 61,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow for 31,200 KES and chickens for 30,000 KES for a poultry venture. He says this second loan will improve his family's living standards and improve his farming businesses.
He says farming in the area is affected by prolonged droughts. He appreciates Juhudi Kilimo's intervention by approving farming loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
