The “SANTA ROSA DE LIMA” Communal Bank is starting its fourth cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the German Busch Regional Office. It has eight members and is directed by a board of directors headed by Señora Lucia. The members' businesses are varied and include: trade, production, and services.

Señora Lucia says that this is her second year in a Pro Mujer communal bank. She joined at the invitation of a promoter. She currently has a business dealing with spare parts for vehicles. She has had this business for seventeen years.

The loan that she will now take out is to increase her merchandise (with the purchase of vehicle spare parts) which she purchases from a distributor and then sells in her stall. This work allows her to generate an income to support her family where possible, as she is in a common-law marriage and has seven children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replies that she likes everything.

Señora Carmen is not in the photo, as she was at a medical appointment.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
