Nicholas is a resident of Litein, South Rift, Kenya. Nicholas is aged 34 and has been in farming for 14 years, with one farmhand currently employed in his farm. He is married with four children aged between 10 and 2 years. His farm produces tea and milk which are sold locally. He gets additional income from his employment in a local factory.
Nicholas has requested a loan of 80,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to pay for the construction of a zero grazing unit for his dairy cows. He says this will make better feeding for the dairy animals and help him manage the feed. He is optimistic the business too will be much better.
He is however stating that fluctuation in market prices and harsh weather conditions are the challenges in farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
