Eric
Eric is a 43 year old man living with his wife and children in a community called Osa located in Caña Blanca which is in Puntarenas Province. This community stands out for being a rural community that’s very popular because of its beaches. Its main economic activities are tourism, farming and animal husbandry.

He says that having his wife’s support helps him to continue with his project. He also says that the project interests him very much because he’s seen how his business gradually grows and demand is greater each time because his neighbors in the community have felt satisfied with the service he provides.

What Eric is seeking now is a ¢500,000 (five-hundred thousand colones) loan to buy clothes and miscellaneous items for his business and to provide his project with the best maintenance and assistance possible.

Eric is a member of the Caña Blanca communal bank, one of EDESA’s 110 social organizations in Costa Rica. He hopes with this loan to grow more both personally and economically. He also points out that thanks to this type of organizations and means of facilitating loans he can dedicate more time to productive activities.

Eric es un señor de 43 años de edad el cual vive con su esposa e hijos, en una comunidad llamada Osa, localizada en Caña Blancal esto en la provincia de Puntarenas. Está comunidad se destaca por ser una zona rural muy visitada por sus playas. Sus principales actividades económicas son las turísticas y agropecuarias.

Dice que tener el apoyo y la ayuda de su esposa le facilita seguir con el proyecto. Además dice que el proyecto le es muy interesante ya que ha visto como poco a poco su negocio crece y la demanda cada vez es más fuerte y que los vecinos de la comunidad se han sentido satisfechos con el servicio brindado.

Lo que en estos momentos solicita don Eric es un micro crédito de ¢500,000(quinientos mil colones), para comprar ropa y variedades para su comercio, y para dar el mejor mantenimiento y asistencia posible a su proyecto.

Don Eric es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal de Caña Blancal, una de las 110 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Con este préstamo se espera crecer más a nivel personal y económico. También destaca que gracias a este tipo de organizaciones y medios facilitadores de crédito puede dedicar más tiempo a las actividades productivas.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
