Three of the children are [their own]. Marie lives together with her children and her husband in Benin. They jointly cover the various family expenses.

To support herself and to ensure her children's needs are met, Marie has been running a business for about fifteen years selling meals (polenta with fried fish and sauce). She gets her supplies from a market in Benin.

This is the third time that she has requested a loan from ALIDé. This loan will enable her and the other members of the group DON DE DIEU to bolster their business and to respond better to the requirements of their customers.

DON DE DIEU est un groupe de trois personnes, dont les membres vivent ensemble dans le même quartier. La représentante du groupe, Marie (dont la main est levée sur la photo), est âgée de 44 ans. Marie est mariée à un certain Robert. Le couple a quatre enfants à charge, tous scolarisés, dont trois sont à leur charge. Marie vit ensemble avec ses enfants et son mari au Bénin. Le couple supporte ensemble les diverses charges familiales. Pour se prendre en charge et assurer les besoins de ses enfants, Marie mène comme activité depuis une quinzaine d'année, la vente de la nourriture (pâte de maïs accompagné de poissons frits et de sauce). Marie s'approvisionne dans un marché du Bénin. C'est la troisième fois que Marie sollicite un crédit auprès de ALIDé. Ce crédit permettra à Marie et aux autres membres du groupe DON DE DIEU, de renforcer leur activité et de mieux répondre aux exigences de leur clientèle.

About Alidé

Alidé is a Beninese NGO that works to reduce poverty by offering sustainable access to productive loans like this one in addition to savings, training sessions, and social work to low-income families.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
