Karupe is a resident and a farmer in the Lelan area of Kitale and is married with 5 children. He has been farming for 18 years, producing and selling milk, potatoes and cotton to the local market.
He has requested a loan of 62,400 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He says he will use the farming income to educate his children as well as to improve their living standards in terms of meals. He is also focusing on improving the breeds of cows he buys to increase the output.
He appreciates Juhudi Kilimo's services, but he laments that animal diseases are too costly to manage.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
