Eugenia Raquel
Doña Eugenia is a merchant who sells clothing, cosmetics, and silver jewelry. For the past four years, she has worked for the common good of her family. Her husband works as plumber for the Enacal Company. Her three young children are in school.

Eugenia started out selling ice and fresh “chicha” (a beverage made from corn). Later she obtained financing in order to buy clothing and cosmetics. She was able to attract customers and obtain orders.

Today with the new loan, Eugenia hopes to repair a section of the roof of her house. She also needs to buy windows because the only coverings she has are fiberboards and metal grating. With the funding from AFODENIC, Eugenia hopes to make her home safer.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
