Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni in northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you Alpha, a small business entrepreneur who has come to SMT/Kiva lenders to seek a loan of 4,000,000 SLL to invest in his business.
Alpha sells provisions such as milk, sugar, butter, mayonnaise, bottled water, etc. He has been a businessman for 4 years now. A husband and a father of 3 children – 1 in primary school and 2 in secondary school, this 48-year-old was born in Port Loko town in northern Sierra Leone.
Alpha has requested this loan in order to buy bottled water, milk and sugar in large quantity to add to his business.

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone. SMT began operations in 2002 as a microcredit program of the NGO Child Fund Sierra Leone under a USAID program to assist the reintegration of ex combatants back into their communities. Today, SMT offers group, agricultural, individual and salary loans to micro-entrepreneurs through six branches and one sub-branch in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas.
