Darine is a 21-year-old Lebanese married woman living with her husband and one child. Despite her young age, she has been working for several years as a beautician. Her business is based at her home and she also works as a freelance beauty specialist. She provides her customers with manicure, pedicure and wax services. In parallel, she has newly started to work in a local supermarket. Her income is very important because she helps her husband with the family expenses. Today, she is requesting to borrow $2,000 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to purchase a laser machine in order to satisfy her customer’s demands. In the future, she is planning to open a formal beauty salon to expand her business level.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
