Marjelyn is a 38-year-old married woman. She is from Jimenez, Misamis Occidental, Philippines. She is taking good care of her five school-aged dependents.
Her source of income comes from gardening. She started planting crops one year ago. In her first year of production, Marjelyn has made an approximate PHP 1,500 a month.
Earlier this year, she joined GDMPC. She has applied a loan of PHP 10,000 from the cooperative to pay for land preparation costs. The area should be free from weeds before planting so the plants can absorb enough nutrients from the soil. Marjelyn hopes to grow more crops such as string beans, squash, tomatoes, etc.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
