Yaqub is 51, married and has two children. He has been raising and breeding livestock for the last four years. Yaqub follows the scheme of buying baby cattle, fattening it and reselling it for a profitable price in the livestock bazaar. The fattening period lasts from five to seven months. He is a trusted client of AqroInvest CU and already successfully completed three previous loans. Now Yaqub applied for 1,200 AZN to purchase more cattle and increase his monthly turnover as well as improve the life of his beloved children.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
