A loan of $875 helped to buy beauty supplies.

Benilda Margarita's story

Belinda, 22, lives in the city of Cartagena and owns “Sala de Belleza Bernarda” (Bernarda Beauty Salon), a business she started to earn her own income when she finished her technical beauty courses. Today, she feels proud to be working in her chosen field because she’s actualizing a great potential and because she helps her customers improve their personal and professional images thereby boosting their self-esteem.

Her market is primarily women and young adults; she works with men and children too. She does haircuts, hair styling, hair straightening, curl relaxing, blow drying, makeup and everything her customers need to feel beautiful. Her challenge is not having enough working capital to sell merchandise-those products she advises her customers about that they need.

This is why she’s calling on her Kiva loan, the first loan she’s gotten from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo, that she’ll use to buy creams, hair color, nail polish, massage products and makeup in larger volume than she currently purchases to be eligible for special discounts and to be able to continue to offer beauty consultancy as the main added value to her beauty salon. Her goal for later on is to have an infrastructure with technology that impacts the marketplace and that makes her processes more effective in a truly stress-free environment for her and her customers.
