A loan of $400 helped to buy and sell products (rice, onions, sugar and other items).

Maria's story

Maria was born in Namaacha District. She is 44 years old, is married and has six children between 3 and 27 years old. Three of the children go to school. Maria finished second grade but did not have time to finish school because her father made her spend most of her time working on their farm. She lives in her own house.

She began a small business selling turnovers at the corners by the school, but with her husband's help she was able to get a stand at the Central Market where she sells basic goods like tomatoes, onions, carrots and rice. She has spent an average of 8,000 meticais on her purchases and has a profit of 3,000 meticais, which she uses for household expenses and construction. Maria also sells meals (soups) daily and earns 350 meticais. She also relies on her husband's help.

This is her third loan with Hluvuku. She is asking for 10,000 meticais to increase her inventory. The earlier loans were for 5,000 meticais and 15,000 meticais and were used for her business. She paid them off successfully and is confident that she will do the same on this loan so she can get more loans, as she would really like to help her daughter, who is currently unemployed.
