Joyce is a resident of Nyamira town where she carries out her farming business producing maize, beans and vegetables which she sells on the local market. She is married with three children, two of whom are schooling.
Joyce has made a loan request for 26,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. She says the dairy business will earn her income and enable her to educate the remaining child. She adds that she wants to start a tailoring business in future.
Joyce says animal diseases and low market prices for the produce are the challenges in the farming business.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
