Clementine is 40 years old and is married with four children aged between 12 and 24. She is a businesswoman selling goods such as lotions, cooking oil, and sugar. Clementine is also the leader of this group, which is called "Imbaraga" in the local language. This word means "effort" in English. Clementine employs one person to help her and she has one year of experience. She starts her work at 8:00 a.m. and works until 8:00 p.m. every day. She is the second person from the left in the picture, the one who is raising her hand.

Clementine and her group have requested a loan from Kiva lenders via Vision Finance Company in order to expand their businesses by buying more salt, sugar, cooking oil, and so on. Once their businesses have expanded, they hope to satisfy their customers and save for their futures.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
