Joyce has been farming for the past 7 years producing pineapple, tea and milk in her hometown of Litein, South Rift Kenya.
Joyce has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. She says she hopes the dairy cow will improve her income and enable her to construct a modern dairy unit as well as educating and feeding her children. She also wants to buy more land to grow nappier grass for her dairy cows.
Joyce says the challenge in dairy farming remains cattle feed which is very scarce and expensive.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
