Lorna is a resident and a farmer in Litein, South Rift, Kenya. She is 38 years old and has been in farming for the last six years with her produce of tea and milk being sold at the local market. She is married with three children between 17 and 13 years old.
Lorna has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a chuff cutter that will help her in feeding her dairy cows. She says the machine will help improve the animal production due to good feeding. She adds that the income will enable her to educate her children.
Lorna notes that insufficient animal feed remains the major challenge for the farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
