Joseph is aged 52 and married with six children, five of whom are currently attending school. He has been practising poultry farming for the last five years in Eldoret town in the Rift Valley, Kenya. He sells most of his eggs and chickens to the local market. He also owns a retail shop which supplements his farming income. His biggest challenge in farming has been poor market prices for farm produce.
Joseph has requested a loan of 40,000 Kenyan shillings in order to buy additional stock of chickens and chicken feed. He says that this loan will enable him to expand his poultry farm and this means increased production. The proceeds from this project will help him to expand his farming activities and improve his family's livelihood.
