Americo is 36 years old and lives with his partner. He has two daughters who are 3 and 13 years old. Americo works as a taxi driver seven days a week in the city of Cusco. He enjoys his job and takes great pride in the upkeep and care of his taxi. Americo is asking for a 500-dollar loan in order to improve his taxi. Specifically, he plans to purchase new tires and probably a new motor. He is committed to making all of the necessary loan payments on time.

Asociación Arariwa is a large non-governmental organization that started offering microcredit in 1994 to improve the quality of life, skills and equity of the population in the rural Cusco region of Peru. Arariwa serves the southern Andean provinces of Peru, and is distinguished by its efforts to reach the very poor, who often live in isolated rural areas. Arariwa fosters village banking, supports savings accounts, promotes access to education, and empowers women entrepreneurs (who make up 78% of its borrowers).
