Sofia is a widowed woman with 10 children. Six of her children still attend school and four have graduated. She lives in a rental house that has neither electricity nor piped water. Her greatest monthly expense is food for the family.
She operates a business selling charcoal at retail to her neighbors and passersby. She faces the major challenge of the high cost of transportation in her business. Her major dream is to become a wholesale supplier of charcoal in the future.
With the KSHS 20,000, she wants to purchase 30 sacks of charcoal for resale. She decided to join Yehu to access loans to boost her business.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
