This group is called “EL RAYITO DE LUZ” and is located in the State of Mexico. This community is known for its hard working people, its livestock, and its beautiful landscapes. The group is made up of eight members and this is their first loan request.
María is the group’s president and she started her business in a small location ten years ago. She sells different kinds of ice cream, of different flavors, that she makes herself. She is asking for this loan in order to buy ingredients such as fruit, pitchers, and ice in order to continue her production and be able to offer a greater variety to her customers. She is 33 years old, has a junior high school education, and has always distinguished herself as a person with a great desire to get ahead and provide the best for her family every day. She is happily married and has three children, ages 14, 9, and 8.
Este grupo se llama “EL RAYITO DE LUZ” y se ubica en el Estado de México. Esta comunidad se distingue por su gente trabajadora, por la ganadería y además por sus lindos paisajes. El grupo esta conformado por 8 integrantes y es la primera vez que solicitan un prestamo. La señora María es la presidenta del grupo. Inició su negocio desde hace diez años, en un pequeño local donde vende nieve de distintos sabores que ella misma elabora, pide el prestamo para comprar materia prima como fruta, garrafas, hielo para seguir produciendo y asi tener más variedad para ofrecer a sus clientes. Ella tiene 33 años, estudió la secundaria, siempre se ha distinguido por ser una persona con muchas ganas de superarse con el deseo de brindarle dia a dia lo mejor a su familia y vive felizmente casada con tres hijos de 14, 9 y 8 años de edad.
This loan is administered by CrediComun, a Kiva Field Partner since February 2010. CrediComun is dedicated to providing loans to groups of women in rural areas in Mexico, and is beginning to lend to individuals as well. One of its newest branch offices is in Ciudad Neza, a poor suburb on the outskirts of Mexico City. CrediComun has grown rapidly since its inception in 2005, with 37 branch offices and over 350 employees, and was ranked the 12th best microfinance institution in Latin America in 2010 according to the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX).

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
