Thirteen women who form the committee called “Virgen del Perpetuo Socorro” (Our Lady of Perpetual Help) meet in the city of Paraguarí. They came together after hearing talk about the enterprising women’s program. They are all known in the neighborhood and surrounding areas for their way of working. Their common objective is to generate more income to provide their families with better lifestyles.

Anselma sells vegetables. She comments that this is very demanding work since she rises early every day to be able to buy the vegetables she will sell. She says that everything she does is for her family’s wellbeing because she’d like to give them a different lifestyle, that is to say, one without deprivations.

She requests the loan to buy all types of vegetables to later resell. She is very grateful for the opportunity the Fundación grants her because she knows that the loan will be of much help to her.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
