Richel, age 41, is engaged in a farming production activity to support her family's needs. She has been involved in this kind of activity for three years and is grateful to be earning a monthly total of PHP 8,000.00 from her business. She and her husband live in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, and have three school-aged children living with them.
Richel has requested a loan of PHP 25,000.00 from GDMPC to acquire necessary fertilizers and pesticides, pay weeding maintenance costs, and purchase rice seedlings. She has been a member of GDMPC for two years now. She anticipates a bountiful harvest and intends eventually to grow other crops to increase her income.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
