Elizabeth is a farmer and a resident of Muranga, Central Kenya. She has been in farming for five years producing milk and chicken hens that she sells in the local market. She also employs casual farmhands on her farm. She is married with two children who are seven and three years old.
Elizabeth has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry for her poultry farming business. She says the expansion of the business will increase her income and enable her to raise her children's living standards. She hopes to expand the business to produce both layers and broilers.
Elizabeth sees diseases as the main challenge in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
