Esther has been engaged in poultry farming for the last four years. She sells her poultry at her local market of Muranga in Central Kenya. She is the mother of two adult children.
She has made a loan request of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo in order to construct a modern poultry unit for her birds. She says this will protect them from common outbreaks and reduce her losses occasioned by bad weather. She adds the improvement of the unit will provide room for about 5,000 birds, which is her target.
Esther concurs with other farmers on the challenges posed by diseases and an unsustainable market. However, she is glad about the loan provision offered by Juhudi Kilimo.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
