Sapy is a 47-year-old Lebanese woman living with her husband and three school-aged children. She has had a tailoring business from her home since 2000. She specializes in sewing pearls in with textiles.
As with the majority of Lebanese wives, her story illustrates the day-to-day challenges in running a business to help their husband with the household expenses. Today, she is asking to borrow $1000 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to purchase new tailoring machinery in order to increase her business productivity and therefore her income. In the future, she is planning to open her own tailoring shop.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
