Jaime Ignacio is 48 years old and married with four children. His children are 13, 14, 19, and 22. For the past 4 years Jaime has had his own ceviche stand. (Ceviche is a dish composed of raw fish soaked in lime juice, salt, and onions.) Jaime has a small stand in a local market but is hoping to upgrade to his own restaurant soon. With a 1,200 USD loan, Jaime will begin to expand his small stand by purchasing more supplies for his kitchen in order to make more ceviche to sell. He is committed to making all the loan payments on time.
About Asociación Arariwa
Asociación Arariwa is a large non-governmental organization that started offering microcredit in 1994 to improve the quality of life, skills and equity of the population in the rural Cusco region of Peru. Arariwa serves the southern Andean provinces of Peru, and is distinguished by its efforts to reach the very poor, who often live in isolated rural areas. Arariwa fosters village banking, supports savings accounts, promotes access to education, and empowers women entrepreneurs (who make up 78% of its borrowers).
