40-year-old Flavia plies her food sales business in the many food markets in Mpigi. It is now a decade in this trade for this happily married mother of six. Before taking root in this business, Flavia was engaged in a retail trade. She dispensed with it in time. The last 10 years have been years of mixed fortunes in her business transactions but she says the successes outweigh the failures. That, in many respects, explains why she is still in this business. She has managed to shoulder most of her family related responsibilities with earnings from this business.

Flavia principally sells bananas, maize, beans and cassava. Monthly this business generates her sales profits totaling up to 800,000 Shillings. She intends to use this Kiva loan to purchase more foods such as rice, cabbages, pineapples, maize, etc to resell.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
