Wilson is a dairy farmer from Litein Town in Rift Valley, Kenya where he has been farming for 10 years. He employs two farmhands. His mixed farm produces tea, maize and milk which he sells locally. Farming is his only source of income.
Wilson has made a loan request of 45,000 KES in order to buy a dairy cow. The extra income from the sale of milk will enable him pay school fees for his 3 children who are currently attending school. His major challenge has been unreliable artificial insemination services which affects his milk production. He would like to build a dairy unit in the next 5 years.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
