Kepha is 47 years old and has been farming for 10 years in the Kisii area, South Rift Kenya, employing five farmhands in his farm. His produce of vegetables, tomatoes, maize, beans and onions are sold locally.
Kepha has requested a loan of 30.000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. He says the milk produced will improve the health of his children as well as enable him to educate them. He adds that he is focusing on expanding his farm acreage to improve tomatoe and onion farming both in quantity and quality.
Kepha believes farmers are facing challenges of poor knowledge in crop diseases and training on the same would be appropriate.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
