Ismail, a 35-year-old resident of the town of Makindye in the Kampala central region of Uganda, is married and has four children, three of whom are currently in school. For the past six years Ismail has operated a business selling charcoal, and he also has rental houses.

To help expand his business, Ismail has requested a loan of 2000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more charcoal for resale by which he hopes to generate greater profits and pay school fees for his children. In the future, Ismail hopes to expand his business.
