The woman in the photograph is Mrs. Long, age 30. She is a rice cultivator who currently lives in the Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham. To earn a daily income, she plants rice crops and a few vegetables on her own farmland. She typically makes an income of approximately $3 each day. Her husband works alongside her in the farm fields.
Mrs. Long has given birth to three children; all of them are single and under her care. Mrs. Long is applying for a loan to purchase a plowing machine to plow her farmland.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
