D.light Uganda

In the last 12 years, d.light products have transformed more than 190 million lives across 70 countries. We envision a brighter future where all people are empowered to enjoy the quality of life that comes with access to affordable and sustainable products. One product we are excited to share with the world is clean cookstoves. The vast majority of Ugandans lack access to clean cooking facilities. Instead, they burn wood and charcoal on inefficient, high-emitting stoves or in open fire pits with poor ventilation. The result is high levels of indoor air pollution, which particularly affects those doing the cooking, who are mainly women. A clean cookstove can prevent more than 4 tonnes of CO2e per year, as it burns wood or charcoal much more cleanly than traditional cooking methods. Due to the robust health, economic, and environmental benefits of clean cookstoves, d.light is excited to partner with BioLite Manufacturing to distribute their stoves to Ugandan households. This loan will go to purchase 7,000 clean cookstoves, which will be distributed and sold to customers in Uganda at highly subsidized costs. d.light will use its extensive last-mile distribution network to reach low-income customers in rural regions.
