Fatuma

Fatuma's story

Fatuma is 35 years old and lives in the town of Kawempe in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, with four of them currently in school. For the past 10 years, Fatuma has been working hard to manage her pub business, which sells a variety of liquor beverages.

To help expand her business, Fatuma has requested a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more liquor and soft drinks to sell. This will help Fatuma to generate greater profits, invest more in her business and buy food for her family.

Fatuma hopes that in the future she will be able to educate all her three remaining kids up to university. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have the collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
