A loan of $7,000 helps a member to buy organic manure, fertilizer wholesale, and more pigs to fatten.

Las Orquideas Group's story
Ever since she was young, Modesta learned that responsibility arrives when you least expect it. She is 33 years old, married, and has a 4-year-old son who does not yet attend school.
When Modesta was in grade 7, her life changed after the death of her mother. She had to leave school in order to take care of her younger siblings. Today, alongside her husband who is a farmer, she works hard to build a stable future. For four years she has been growing cardamon on rented land, selling from orders and in the local market. This work is her principal source of income. She has the full support of her husband at each stage of the process. In addition, she raises poultry and pigs which she sells from her house.
Modesta is seeking her fourth Kiva loan to buy manure, fertilizer wholesale, and more pigs to fatten. With this investment she is seeking to increase production and maintaining a stable business, thus guaranteeing the wellbeing of her family.
In the department and state of Quiche, there are eight women who belong to the Friendship Bridge community bank of Las Orquideas and who have benefitted from the Microcrédito Plus program. They have learned about good business administration and taking on too much debt. These topics are beneficial for cardamon growing businesses and raising domestic animals.
Modesta shares the following: "Thank you, Kiva lenders, for supporting visionary women like myself."
