Lirios De Ximbayac Ii Group's story
At a very young age, Juana understood that responsibility and consistent work formed the foundation for success. She is now a 30-year-old single mother with an eight-year-old son who is in the first grade. Juana graduated with a high school diploma with a focus on sewing, which has helped her pursue different business activities. Five years ago, she opened a convenience store in her home where she sells everyday consumer products. Juana also raises and sells native chickens at her house in the Department of Quiché so that she can earn additional income. Three years ago, she started a third business offering sewing and mending services so that she could take advantage of her high school training. Juana is now requesting her first Kiva loan so that she can restock her convenience store with more products, including beverages and snacks. Her goals are to expand her business, increase her income, and secure a better future for her son.
The Friendship Bridge Communal Bank “Lirios De Ximbayac II” consists of seven women who speak the Maya K'iche' language and Spanish. Their businesses include sewing, raising domesticated animals, and managing convenience stores. The "Microcredit Plus" program has been an essential springboard to self-empowerment. They have learned about topics, such as self-esteem and the importance of establishing goals. In addition, they receive bimonthly visits from a nurse who offers various health services.
They are grateful to the Kiva lenders.
