She has been in this line of work for 8 years. Margarita tells us that she taught herself this trade. Between September and May her sales increase since this is the busiest season of the year. When she is not selling wholesale, she sells retail in street markets. Her workshop is located in her new home which is in the town of Batuco. She has five industrial machines.

With her loan, Margarita will buy an industrial cutting machine. Her goals for her business are to sell her own designs of bags, backpacks and cases. She would also like to buy a vehicle for transporting her merchandise as it is very hard to manage the weight of the backpacks. Her dreams are to own her own established business premises where she can make and sell her products more peacefully.

Margarita lives together with her husband, her 25 year-old daughter, and her 8 year-old grandson. She also has another daughter who is studying and helps her in her business. She is very grateful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza has given her, not only as regards the loan but also as regards the values that Fondo Esperanza promote regarding solidarity, unity and trust.

In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
