Jane's story
Jane is 51 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 5 years, Jane has been working hard to manage her food market which sells charcoal and raw food.
To help expand her business, Jane has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more sacks of charcoal and matooke and it will help Jane to generate greater profits and profits from the business to be used to improve the standard of living of the family members.
Jane hopes that in the future she will be able to build rentals. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have the collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
