This group, named "El Porvenir," decided on this name because this is also the name of the community where they live and where all of them are from. This description will focus on C. Esbeidy, since she is one of the members of this group. She is 30 years old and is married to Esteban. They have 2 children; one of them is in school in the second grade and the younger one is barely 2 years old. C. has had a business selling cellular telephone cards and recharge minutes for 3 years.

She says that she chose this activity because she had to look for a way to provide for her children and help her husband with the household expenses. For this reason she decided to start with this small business, which she says gives her good earnings. She will use the loan she received to buy more telephone cards and recharge minutes.

C. tells us that her goal is to continue to invest in her business to make it grow a lot more, since she wants to have a cellular phone store so that she can have more income. This way she can cover the educational expenses of her children, since she wants them to continue to study so that they can have a good professional career.

She knows her fellow group members well, and tells us that they are responsible people who are hardworking and reliable and who have a strong desire to get ahead and succeed.

She thanks the Kiva lenders for their trust and for giving her this opportunity, but most of all for believing in her. Thanks to this support she can invest in her business and in this way have a better future.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
