A loan of $25,000 helps an Iranian inspired bakery in Brooklyn purchase commercial equipment for its first storefront.

Lena's story
I grew up in Texas as the daughter of Iranian immigrants, and food has always been at the center of our family’s life. Some of my earliest memories are of my mother and grandmother in the kitchen, blooming saffron, making bread, scenting pastries with rosewater, and showing me that cooking was about generosity and gathering. Those moments shaped who I am and ultimately inspired me to start BiBi Bakery.
Although I built a career in engineering, finance, and the nonprofit world, I never stopped baking. Mixing Iranian ingredients like barberry, rosewater, saffron, and pistachio with American desserts became my creative escape. In 2022, I made the decision to pursue baking full time and launched BiBi Bakery as a tribute to the resilient women who raised me and taught me to use food as a way to build community.
At its core, BiBi Bakery is about sharing culture, telling stories through flavor, and inviting others to experience the warmth of Iranian hospitality.
