Catherine's story

Catherine is 45 years old and lives in the town of Kiyinda in the Kiyinda region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, with 2 of them currently in school.

For the past 2 years, Catherine has been working hard to manage her depot, which sells soft drinks. To help expand her business, Catherine has requested a loan of 2,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more drinks to sell, and will help Catherine generate greater profits. And, she will be able to expand her business.

Catherine hopes that in the future she will be able to construct rental units. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program, which primarily serves small-group members like her who do not have the collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
