A loan of $7,050 helps a member to buy casual clothing and use another part to open a shoe business.

Bella Flor Sector 2 Group's story
Thirty-one-year-old Sara is married to a bricklayer. The couple lives with their four children, ranging in age from two to thirteen, in the department/state of Suchitepequez. She has a sixth-grade education but could not continue because her parents lacked funds. Eight years ago, she opened her business selling traditional and casual clothing as a street vendor. Three years ago, she added another business selling vegetables and corn as a street vendor and from her home. Her goal is to have her own storefront where she can display her clothing attractively. She requests her second Kiva loan to buy casual clothing and to use another part to open a shoe business. She will set aside funds for three of her children to continue going to school!
“Bella Flor Sector 2” is the name that ten Maya K’iche ladies gave to their Friendship Bridge Trust Bank. They elected Sara to be President, so she calls monthly meetings to order. The women are happy to participate in monthly educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education, and health care. A recent topic for the training was about the dangers of over-indebtedness. Other topics are about business, health, women’s issues, and family matters. Every two months, they have access to basic health care services, including exams consults and family planning.
They thank the Kiva lenders for helping these women help themselves.
